A Workshop by Berrak Yedek What would happen if our hands and feet were given space to explore and to tell stories from their own point of view? We often take our hands and feet for granted. We use them extensively, care for them, sometimes even decorate them. Yet our relationship with them varies greatly. The feet, usually confined to narrow shoes, are rarely invited to express themselves. They carry our weight and are obliged to move: walking, running, climbing, cycling, driving. The hands, by contrast, enjoy more freedom and agency. They perform highly skilled actions: cooking, writing, taking, giving, grabbing, fixing, mending. They speak alongside our words, shape our communication, and serve us humbly and tirelessly. And yet, it is the feet that anchor us to the earth. They release our weight into the ground, allowing the rebound to travel upward through the body. They transmit information in both directions, hold deep movement memory, and carry vast embodied experience. Both hands and feet- our peripheral extremities- are our primary points of contact with the outer world. Through them, we meet, sense, and relate. In this Somatic Dialogue Workshop, we will give space to these skillful body parts and explore the subtleties of their being. While we will naturally touch base with our centre, arms, and legs, the focus will be on sensing, feeling, and listening to the hands and feet, bringing awareness to their unique qualities and characters.
